I think the STL's Triple is massive compared to the Maparam Triple.

Look how compact and small the Maparam triple is:
Image

In comparison, the STL triple (in TrueSlayer's Video) appears to be big, chunky and heavy. They didn't take into account the comfort of the user:

Here is Osawa's Icaros Triple. It is also smaller and more compact than STL's. Seems way lighter in weight too:

Furthermore if you look at this comparative photo between another maker of Double ocarinas and Maparam's Double ocarina - the Maparam is way smaller and lighter in weight. But the sound quality is said to be the same - the Maparam being more compact and easy to hold in the hands.

I'm glad I didn't rush to buy the STL triple which is big and heavy :) Maparam Triple for me - it is what I'm saving up for next ;)
I will have a better idea of how big Maparam ocarinas are once my Double arrives.

Here is a photograph of Icaros Triple ocarina. This was the first triple ocarina ever made (The Italians were the first to make a double ocarina. So the Japanese added another chamber to make the triple).

This is the one that Osawa uses in his Czardas video:

Hmm. You have a good point there. When you get the Maparam double, send me the measurements. And I mean ALL the measurements. I have them listed earlier on in the thread.

I've looked at those pictures a few times, and I'm not sure how well one can evaluate the size of those ocarinas based on the pictures. In the first picture, the ocarina and player are significantly farther away from the camera than in the second, they're being held at different angles, and they're fingering different notes.

If I look at the size of the ocarina compared to the player's hands, they don't look to be that different (at least from a top view, can't be sure about thickness). But that's hard to judge too, since I don't know the relative size of the two players' hands either.

I'm not suggesting that they're the same size, or which one might be bigger; I just think it's very hard to determine that from the pictures that I've seen (including videos I've seen on youtube). The best way to compare the two would be to see them next to each other, both as seen from above and as seen from the side.

My Maparam Double has arrived.

They are clearly smaller than STL's Double - I webcammed with someone who has the STL double. Definitely smaller.

See how it fits nicely in the hand? Very Cute ^^

Now I need a clay that won't harden so quickly. By quickly, I mean in 2 hours. Any ideas?

Use ceramic clay. that is the traditional and most widely used building material for ocarinas. several people on this forum have built ocs with it. from what i've read and heard, you have to moisten it once in a while when you are working with it, (use a spray bottle) and you have to store your project in a plastic bag to keep it workable until it's finished. :ocarina: :ocarina: :ocarina:

Hmm. Maybe I should keep a spray bottle handy. Usually when I'm making an ocarina, the clay begins to crack while I'm making the voice hole and finger holes. I remember see some site about this Paperclay. It's supposed to be really high quality and dry slowly. It can even be dried in an oven at 250 degrees for a half hour if you're in a rush.
