Well just to add my collection, this pretty much reads as a list of every xmas and bday present i've ever received lol. Apart from the Wii which was bought out of my own hard earned cash, and plays better for it

Mega Drive>
Dreamcast>
N64> ( these 3 are all now busted :( )
GC
Wii
DS/DS Lite
GBA/C
PS1 (really only for playing old FF7/8/9 on)
PS2 (Of which my dogs chewed through the aerial cable  )
NeoGeo Pocket (old school baby)
Xbox
Xbox360
Laptop with Mega Drive, Nes, Snes, 32X, SegaCD and N64 emus.
I think there's an Atari up in the attic cuz I remember playing the game on it when you had to get a chicken across the road when I was a kid.

There's also some really old console up there that my dad has that plays Cassettes? No idea what it is though!

And I agree, Nintendo have gotten too comfortable with what I call their Trump cards (Mario, Zelda, Samus e.t.c) but the point is, much like Tony Hawks everyone rushes out and buys em when they're released so what do you expect.
The Wii will be better though cuz I can see it attracting alot more third party developers, which was always Sonys main selling point.
It's comin' at ya like a shark with knees

And as for all those systems on one tv.. Im going to see if I can break teh record.

Xbox
Wii
Gamecube
Ps1
Ps2
Genisis
n64

One tv.

Psh... I've done that many using old school systems and all but one using RF cables. Needless to say, with so many systems connected behind each other like that on an old tv and vcr, my picture quality was suffering pretty badly.
Well excuuuuuse me, princess!

I really enjoy my Wii.
But since I have beaten all my video games I haven't played it in a while.
I'm waiting eagerly for Brawl though.
But my other favorite systems are N64, SNES, and Gamecube

Why do I have to choose?

I have GBA, DS, PSP, PS2 and xbox and my problem is that I like so many different games that come out on different consoles that I can't decide.

The 3rd gens have me very confused.

I want to get an xbox360 because of Fable2 which should be released this year, and possibly maybe a Jade Empire two. I also loved Oblivion so I'd get that one as well (I own it on PC now but I prefer slouching on the couch xD). But I also want a wii because of Mario Galaxy and of course Twilight Princess. And there's PS3 and that assassin's creed just looks best on it, not to mention some of the newer Samurai games are PS3 only... :3

So I'm torn. And xbox360 is a disaster, it seems like half their consoles break within the first year.... and the wii is just so cool!!!

can't make up my mind D:

Ok, here is what I have had for consoles (the * represents that I still have it) I am trying to keep it in chronological order of when I got it.

ColecoVision
Atari 5600
*NES
MasterSystem
*Gameboy
Genesis
SNES
TurboDuo
GameGear
3DO
SegaCD
Sega 32X
Gamboy Color
PlaySataion
*N64
*Gameboy Advance
*PS2
*GameCube
*Xbox360

I am an Old-school gamer, and I break out emulations all the time, but the 360 has me sold. Between the extremely comfortable wireless controller which came with the system (been using 3rd party wireless for my PS2), the HD graphics, Xbox Arcade, Achievement System, Multimedia features, and the fact that literally everyone I directly work with owns one, I am totally addicted. Having skipped the entire first generation of Xbox, the first thing I did was buy the one game I wanted which wasn't available elsewhere (no not Halo, because I played that when it was called Unreal 10 years ago) -- Ninja Gaiden (Black to be specific).

For those of you who don't know, Xbox has an achievement system implemented on the 360 which gives your account credit for accomplishing certain goals in-game. Most 360 games are maxed 1000 points (Gears of War is an example of one exception) and Live Arcade games usually have only 200 possible. These achievement range from plot related, to bonus related (like collecting all the flags in Assassin's Creed) to comical (Like pressing "Start" on the Simpsons or killing Jarjar 25 times on Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga). Therefore, now there is a reason to get 100% in a game, you can quantify your bragging rights. This has been my most appreciated feature of the system, and one which most PS3 owners doesn't know exist. The one major limitation is no HD drive built in. As a result, multi-DVD games are now being released and it is a major pain to swap between games. Since, not every 360 has a hard drive, the programmers can't use that to compensate. :(

I have never heard someone use the term 3td gen before, but I'm assuming it's referring to 3rd generation of 3D consoles because we are well beyond 3rd generation for consoles. I just use the term next-gen and last-gen to differentiate between what is phasing out and phasing in. Course, I don't consider the Wii "next-gen" since it is built on 5 year old technology. I consider it a glorified GameCube. It's backwards compatible because it is only an upgrade, not a complete hardware overhaul.

As a side note, I noticed that the PS3 has better framerate, where the 360 has more detail. Anyone else have similar observations?

Well I meant 3rd gen, as in the third battle in the war between the big 3, Sega was in the first battle with dreamcast (PSX/N64) and xbox joined in the 2nd battle with xbox (gamecube/ps2). That's how I was counting ^_^.

And I'm still very torn. I see what you're saying about the x360, but the wii sounds great as well, especially since I want to play the newer zelda games. I also REALLY want to get assasins creed but if I'm not mistaken that also exists for the x360 as well as PS3?

In the end, I will probably get the xbox360 either way because of Fable2. The game that has been developed for the past 100 years it seems. They keep postponing the release date... but still I have hope. :)

Oh, the Wii is great. I borrowed a Japanese version from a friend for about a week (though I couldn't really ready any of it) and I had a blast. I just don't consider it a next-gen system. The hardware doesn't reflect that.

Also, Dreamcast was in direct competition with PS2. They were released about 1 year apart. It was the Sega Saturn which competed with the N64, and poorly at that.

Oh, and Yes, Assassin's Creed is multi-platform. I think it might be on PC also, but I know it is for PS3 and 360. I actually was really upset with it. I even made a top 10 list of things which should have been implemented but weren't. I played through the game twice and it just didn't live up to the hype. (I played it twice because I missed an Xbox Achievement and had to start a new game to get it).

As a side note, you may not remember this since gaming wasn't as popular then, but the first real war that I saw was the Atari/Nintendo war, which Nintendo won hands down (the 7200 vs. the NES). Then after that the SNES vs Genesis was a war that lasted years. They even made up all kinds of marketing schemes like "Blast Processing" and Nintendo emphasising the number of colors (which I think was 1024).

I really need to learn to use the "preview" option. I have edited this post for content like 10 times

Usually NES generation is considered being the first gen because that's when game consoles got really popular. Then comes SNES (2nd), PlayStation (3rd), Playstaion 2 (4th) and finally the gurrent gen which is fifth gen.

Only problem was that it wasn't designed for 3D, so they bagged on that a lot. However, 2D games were where it was at. Look at the Lunar and NightStalkers series. Great games without the need for a 3rd dimension. The 3D games on the Saturn were just not comparable (speed wise) to the other consoles, even the PS1.
