So let me see if I understand, on the 12 hole, the extra holes are the equivalent to playing (or covering) the hole half-way?

I meant to says "The extra holes are the equivalent to playing (or covering) the hole half-way on the 10 hole ocarina" But it seems you got my point.

Wow, you were right! I just played a few few songs from Spencer's 12 hole ocarina songbook and came out great on my 10 hole. (Ignoring the small holes of course as advised)

Those songs are also playable on the 9 hole.
It has the same range as the 10 hole, but with different fingerings.
