I built one of these today. It doesnt sound that great, but it was fun to build....and I used poster board to make it a bit easier.

Whoa that looks interesting, are you able to record yourself playing it?

That looks REALLY neat.

And by the size of those holes, it uses a peruvian system. I should be able to just pick one up and play it easily.
Goodbye OcarinasUnited.

I'm getting bored of you.

Maybe the reason it sounds bad is because of the fingering system (not peruvian. Some other system)

Try it now.

Shoebox cardboard should be pretty good. The main problem with paper, poster board, and shoe boxs, is it is all basicly paper. Since it is paper you have to be carefull not to get it wet, or get too much spit on it. Its a fun project, but not the most utilitarian.

I attempted this, but my first attempt had me unhappy with the holes I cut. The size and roughness of the holes make a big difference in sound. My second attempt was better, but then my cat ate it. I'm not currently tempted enough to make a third.

It is an Icasohedron, or in other words a 20 sided die in AD&D

I used to make polyhedrons, I used posterboard. There are similar methods for 4,6,8,12 sided polyhedra.

Very cool :-)

Ooh! a wooden one would be cool, but very hard to make. You have to split the dihedral angle (the angle between two connected faces) and cut that angle into 20 triangles. I shudder thinking about it!

I talked to a friend of mine, He gave me some tips on how to make it easier, so I think I will go for it :-)

Acetate is better than paper for this.
