Just a little help.

So I am new to instruments all together, I was starting with the recorder but I had saw an Ocarina at a festival and it sparked my intrest. I was just given three and know not a thing about them. I was told they really aren't the best, and were just bought off ebay. I am not fond fo things that come off ebay to say the least, but I do notice a difference between the three and i think iw ant to buy one similiar to one I already have.

Let me explain the three.

The first is the smallest and like the second they both have 4 holes at the top along with a sound hole, which looks much like a whistle.

The second however is just a tad bigger then the first, but like I said has 4 holes on the top and a sound hole that looks like a whistle. With two holes on the bottom.

The last is the sound I like the most, it's low but it has 6 holes on the top, two holes on the bottom along with the sound hole on the bottom. But unlike the other two this sound hole is round, unlike whistles and is about as big as the other two combined.

Well, let me get down to the point here, I am looking for a good quality Ocarina. I am more interested in low tones and prefer it to be similar to my third ocarina, though I would love it to have 4 holes ontop.. and then maybe move onto six.

Anyway, could someone point me in the right direction? Maybe someone can make something of my babble.

I'll recommend a couple sites for you.

But first, if you really want to know exactly what ocarina is best for you, I would suggest getting Docjazz4's The Ocarina Guide. I have read it and can say it gives you plenty of information about the ocarina.

If you want to go straight to some sites and start browsing, I would check out these links:

Songbird Ocarina sells many types of ocarinas from pendants (which you described two of yours to be), to transverse.

Here is a pendant you may enjoy due to it's pitch and price ($15)

There is also Mountain Ocairnas made by Karl Ahrans. The polycarbonates are virtually indestructible!

I hope these links help. :)
