Just got a pendant ocarina

Postby Blue Calx on Tue Mar 11, 2008 1:26 am

... from some booth at a music festival. The man in charge of the booth was not there at the time, and so his assistant sold me the ocarina and told me to return later for instruction from his boss. I forgot to go back before I left the festival, and so now I have no note chart.

I found this chart in the sticky at the top of the forum page:

Will that note chart work with this type of ocarina?:

I'm sorry if this sounds like a stupid question, but since I probably don't have proper blowing technique yet, it's hard for me to tell if the notes sound off because I have the wrong chart, or if it's only because I need to practice.

Thanks for putting this board up, there's lots of useful info here!

Yes! It looks like you have an English style six hole. *It's lovely!*
That fingering chart should work just fine for you.

EDIT:
Here is Blowing Instructions as given by Songbird Ocarinas.

If you need tabs to songs, check my siggy for Link.

Ok, I have confirmed the match of my ocarina to the chart by stumbling through "The Lion Sleeps Tonight". Thank you!

If you go to the songbird ocarinas page, you fill find that they have a dictionary of various songs. It will work great on your ocarina since it follows the same tabs.

Have fun!

Are you sure that the fingering chart works?

I have a similar looking ocarina as your's

(the blue circle one one, bottom right corner):

As far as I can tell, it does not follow the correct pendant ocarina scale. In fact, it doesn't play in tune at all.

Unless your ocarina is made by a different maker and it happens to look similar, double check that your scale does play in tune with the fingering chart :?

I have the same deep blue 6 hole pendant.

I purchased mine from Renfest as well, and it doesn't seem to follow this fingering chart.

:/

I just bought my 6 hole ocarina from STL and I'm having a hard time playing it. I mean I've never played one before, but I want to learn. The problem is that I need help in learning how to play it right.

That looks to be an English Pendant.
