Hullo.
I just ordered a Songbird soprano pendant ocarina this past Thursday (Oct. 9th), so I am waiting (impaitently) for it to arrive.
I already have an 8-hole "peruvian" ocarina, which I picked-up just for looks at the local county fair a couple years ago. I never actually tried playing it until tonight, because I am getting so impatient waiting for my soprano pendant.
I have next-to-no experience playing music. I learned the basics of the recorder back in 4th grade (11 years ago) and re-learned it in a Fundamentals of Music class 4 semesters ago at college, but I did not keep practicing. I somewhat learned to sight-read sheet music in choir back in high school, but again I never kept up with practicing.
I always wanted to play an instrument, but there was always something in the way. I decided that "one day" I'd learn how to play some kind of flute-like instrument, and I had a specific sound in mind... its hard to explain what I mean, but I was sure I'd know it when I heard it.
Then, recently, one of my mentors suggested I get a new hobby to help cope with the stress in my life right now, and though I originally planned to take up the recorder again, I came across my peruvian ocarina and decided to check that out instead.
After I ended up browsing ocarina videos on YouTube, I realized that the sound I was looking for was indeed a soprano ocarina. (I hope this isn't sounding too cheesey...)
I found out about this forum through YouTube, and thought that it could serve as a good resource for information and for shooting the breeze with other ocarinists once I get playing.
So, I have never been a member of a forum before, and I have never seriously tried to learn an instrument before.
I am glad to meet you all.
