I've had that glitch myself. It disappears as soon as you look at your messages.

FYI, the reason for 65535 is that is the largest number an "integer" can old. So, when the system glitches (for whatever reason) and ends up counting infinitely, then the end result will be 65535. If you are curious, this is because 16 bits are reserved for an "integer" type. Thus 1111111111111111 in binary is 65535 in decimal (which is what we count in). Kinda interesting geek stuff.

which is also 2^16 minus 1. (because there are 2^16 bit combinations, but 000000000000000 is reserved for the regular number 0)

It took me a moment to figure out what you were saying, but you are talking about the famous "off by 1" issues to computer mathematics. Because of how values are used by computers, they start counting at 0, where we start counting at 1. This often causes armature programmers small mathematical errors until they get used to the issue. But yes, binary math is very similar to working with powers 2, while keeping in mind that 0 is your first "real number."

I love powers of 2!

I've never had this problem, but I wonder if it can be cause by trying to delete a message and then clicking back and then clicking delete again. A friend of mine used that method to decrement the count of how many messages he had in his inbox at a forum once. If this is done when you have only one message, it seems like you would go back by one past zero and thus have the max number.
