Um....help?

Postby MadSpaceCow on Fri Dec 12, 2008 10:11 pm

Well, I just made my first ever ocarina ([link=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2bwfu12agw&feature=channel_page]I used the guide in the link right here[/link]). It looks okay, and it's a ten hole. But it only has two sounds...whoo and whee... (Whoo is when I hold down all of the holes, whee is when I don't hold any f them.)

I finished it like 10 minutes ago, so is it because it's still kinda moist, or did I just screw up?

The ocarina should have the full range even when it is still wet. you probably make a slight error in the tuning, or the mouthpiece is not aligned properly. Another way it could make that sound is that the chamber is to big.

Well, I might have made the chamber to large...But as for the tuning, what do you do to tune it? I'm fairly certain I alaigned the mouthpeice right.

With tuning, you just make the ocarina so the holes are the right size to make a certain note, sometimes the the holes are too large and will not produce sound.

Well, I've looked it over, and I've picked out a few flaws. Hopefully the one I make tommarrow will be better! (I'll be posting pictures of both ocarinas soon)

Well, I 've picked out alot of mistakes I hope to improve. I even think I'll list them....

-Chamber to large
-Hole to close to Sound hole
-Mothpeice in a strange position (I looks okay on the outside, but if you look through the holes you can see the air from the mouth peice hits a cliff)
-Forgot to make a Bevel
But it was my first, so give me a break

I found a more helpfull guide, and plan to make a new one tommarrow. (I would have made one today, but I got clay as hard as iron, so I'm returning it)
