Maybe more people would know what your talking about if you called it a baritone, but I feel ya I play the euphonium and anytime I told someone I played the Euphonium they were always like "huh"

well i play the euphonium more often then i do the baritone(they're very different in sounds says i(the difference is nothing to do with valves)) so i say euphonium
that being said, i love the baritone just as much, and the most beautiful sound i've ever made came out of a baritone

I'm more of a trombonist myself. There seems to be less competition for the trombone than the Euphonium in my mind. Right now I'm worried about getting through college auditions for this next year.

I've heard of the euphonium. I've played it since I was in fifth grade (currently a sophomore in college). I love when someone asks what instrument I play. I always respond with: "I play the euphonium", then when they give me a puzzled look I say: "A mini tuba". Makes me laugh every time.

The difference between Baritone and Euphonium is in the way the tubing is shaped. It's like trumpet .vs. cornet. The euphonium has tubing which increases in diameter throughout the instrument, where the baritone stays more or leas the same diameter, until it nears the bell, where of course the brass tubing flairs out to form the bell.

The tube which increases in size is called "conical bored" instrument. Cornets and flugelhorns are conical, where trumpets and trombones are straight. (Trombines of course, because it would be impossible to slide a tube over another tube if the diameter was increasing.

I've heard of it. My cousin plays the tuba, but whatever band he was in didn't have tubas to play, or they didn't use them, so he played the euphonium. At least that's what he told me...with the brass quintet thing he always played his tuba.
