STL--Horn, Infinity, or Enigma?

Postby joleo on Sat Feb 28, 2009 4:48 am

So i've been reading through a couple of posts and watching quite a few reviews on STL 12H ocarinas, and have finally decided to stick with this brand for my beginner stage. =]

What i am having trouble now is that i cannot decide between the STL horn, infinity, or enigma. i have heard samples of all three and personally think that they all sound pretty great. The enigma's sound attracts me the most but not by whole lot over the other 2. My debating between the horn and the infinity is that my hands are considered pretty large and on one of docjazz4's reviews he said that it would be more ideal for the players hands to me medium-small. >> So maybe the infinity's size is better for me?

Argh. >_____<||| so frustrated. Q.Q

thank you so much for any suggestions and/or opinions! =D

Of those three I would personally recommend the Enigma because of its traditional ocarina shape!

I would personally suggest considering a Focalink ocarina! I have both WPN(stl) and Focalink ocarinas, and in my opinion the Focalink ocarinas are easier to play, but the ocarinas that stl sells are still great instruments!

Also, if you don't mind me asking, do you live in the US? I have heard that international shipping from stl can be quite expensive. If you do not live in the US there are several other online stores which sell many of the same products, and it may be cheaper to order from one of these.

thank you for replying OcarinaMan333 =D i really appreciate it =]

right know i do currently live in the US, but i just moved from China, so forgive the poor english..>____<|| well, after alot of research, my STL horn should be arriving tomorrow =D

your advise makes great sense to me and i agree 100% with it. The reason why i didnt get the enigma now and got the horn instead is because on the official TNG website (which is chinese, so most people only know the resellers which are stl), i found about 60-70% of the "stl" ocarinas sold there for about 2/3 or less of the price! =] such as the purple clay soprano C ($80 on stl) is only 300yuan(300/7= $43). The enigma was in the same situation.

although i didnt find the horn or infinity, so i decided to get the horn =p

people dont know about this because the website is in chinese/taiwanese, and i dont think they are international enough to do over sea shippings.

shipping fees to any where in china is 10yuan ($1.42) and to taiwan or hongkong would be 20yuan ($2.85)

so i decided that during summer vacation when i go back to beijing i will be ordering it from there =]

im still researching on focalink ocarina's and if they are able to cut down the shipping price if it was shipped to China..because their main factory is in china~ xD

well, thats my share of information for everyone =] thanks for replying again! =D

I must say you made a very informed decision!

Your plan to purchase when you can get the ocarina shipped from the manufacturer while you are in the area is brilliant!

I am looking forward to hearing about your ocarina when it arrives!

I would recommend that you order a Focalink Alto C ocarina! They are top notch ocarinas at a great price($50-55 depending on the glaze)! And now the shipping won't kill you because they can be purchased from Songbird(was $30 from Taiwan(express only), but is now less than $10(this is a guess as I haven't ordered from Songbird in a while, my Focalinks have all come from Taiwan :) ))!

This is the page for the ocarina I recommend! It is slightly more than the Alto C ocarinas distributed by StL, and they are easier to play for beginners!

Don't buy any of them. Start with a Focalink. Most Ocarinas that STL import are extremely hard to play without airiness, especially for beginners. Also most Ocarinas that STL sell don't have correctly functioning sub-holes, which basically makes their 12 Holes 12 Holes.
